CROSSROADS’ AWARDED YOUTH-LED PREVENTION GRANT
“Prevention Program Gets a Boost”
MENTOR, OH (August 31, 2017) – Crossroads has been awarded a $22,500 youth-led prevention grant from the Prevention Action Alliance; one of four grants issued throughout the state totaling $114,000.
“Every day our youth are bombarded with messages that portray teens like them as people who misuse drugs and engage in other risky behavior,” said Marcie Seidel, Executive Director of Prevention Action Alliance. “Those messages, though false, set expectations for our youth that make drug use seem normal.”
The grants will establish four regional, youth-led training academies to support the professional development and workforce capacity of youth-led prevention as well as to provide resources and networking opportunities to youth-led prevention organizations.
The grants of $22,500 each were awarded to:
- Julianna Fellows, with Crossroads in Mentor
- Beth Thomas, with the Fulton County Health Department in Wauseon
- Mollie Stevens, with Impact Prevention in South Point
- Cheryl Sells, with CompDrug in Columbus
Crossroads’ CEO, Mike Matoney says “This grant is an investment in our young people and that is something that is far more valuable than the amount on the check as it will pay off for years to come. We are grateful to have the opportunity to impact even more young lives.”
In addition, twelve other agencies across the state were awarded smaller grants to help strengthen their efforts to engage with youth, positive youth development and youth empowerment.
